Everything from cucumbers to leeks are being stolen from farms and gardens in Manitoba this year, and there are concerns the thieves are getting more organized.
Erin Crampton, who owns a farmer’s market in Winnipeg, says one of her suppliers had his entire field of cucumbers cleared out overnight by thieves who drove in with a truck.
Produce is also being taken from small city garden plots.
The head of the Riverview Garden Society in Winnipeg says his members have noticed thieves targeting specific items by taking out all the onions or leeks from some plots.
The group installed large signs three years ago to deter thieves, but the thefts continue.
