As an injured miner fights for his life at Royal University Hospital, his family is encouraging the public to donate blood – not only for him, but for all accident victims.
The 29-year old father of two was badly hurt early Monday morning at the Agrium Vanscoy potash mine.
He was pinned between two pieces of mining equipment.
Darrin Kruger is President of United Steelworkers Local 7552.
He says he is speaking on behalf of the injured miner’s family to get this message out.
The miner remains in critical condition and on life support.
Kruger says his injuries are such that he has used upwards of 400 units of blood.
A unit of blood is about half a litre – with the average person having approximately five litres of blood.
