How much of the Olympics in Rio have I watched in the first week? None. Zip. Nada. Zero. Zilch.
I have very little interest in the Summer Olympics until the track and field events get under way. And even then, the only event that I will make it a point to watch is the men’s 100m final. That’ll be it. Usain Bolt will be trying for his third straight gold medal in that event. Michael Phelps won his fourth gold at the Rio Olympics and his 22nd overall, and he still has a chance at four more! At what point is winning a gold medal just another part of your day? You’d think it wouldn’t be that big of a deal after your 22nd!
Canada’s Penny Oleksiak has become the first gold medallist from any country to be born in the 21st century. The 16-year-old from Toronto set an Olympic record en route to a gold in the women’s 100-metre freestyle swim race last night. She’s having quite the Olympic run…3 bronze medals and one gold! That’s four more medals than I’ve won!
So, although I’m not interested in watching the Olympics, I am very interested in the stories that come out of Rio.
Want me to watch the Summer Olympics? That’s easy. Try to sandwich hockey game between some ski jumping and a giant slalom run! If you can do that, you’ve got me!
