Saturday afternoon after my broadcast in Arcola, I decided to stop by my local grocery store and grab some munchies and some meat for a barbeque. I had a feeling it would be a little busy with Rider fans grabbing some goodies for the game that night. It was.
I noticed a few grocery baskets, filled with food, scattered at a couple of the cashier lanes. It looked like some shoppers, after wandering the aisles and filling their baskets, had a sudden change of heart and just abandoned their baskets before walking out empty handed. A little odd indeed!
After I finished grabbing what I needed, I discovered the reason for the abandoned baskets. The debit machine wasn’t working at any of the lanes. It was cash only! I never carry any cash on me. The only time I have money in my pocket is in the morning and I can tell you exactly how much I have… $2.50. That’s my parking money.
So, I, like a lot of other people, left my basket with one of the girls while I went outside a pulled some money out of the bank machine. A real pain in the a**! Unlike a few people, I actually went back in to the store and paid for my groceries with cold hard cash.
It would have been nice to have someone who works at the store at the front door informing people that the debit machine was down before they went on their merry way filling their carts and baskets with groceries.
Nothing like waiting and waiting in a long line up on a busy day only to find that you can’t use your debit or credit cards!
