The mayor of La Loche says he’s pleased with the province’s efforts to help his remote northern Saskatchewan village recover from a deadly shooting rampage last January.
Premier Brad Wall travelled to the community Tuesday and met with Kevin Janvier to announce new initiatives that include construction of affordable rental housing, adult basic education programs and a trades program.
A suicide prevention and community wellness worker will also start work later this month and a new program will be created to educate university students to become teachers.
Wall says his government is fulfilling its promise to help the community after two brothers were killed at a home and a teacher and a teacher’s aide were shot dead at the local high school.
Seven others were wounded.
