Nineteen dogs have been rescued by police after a resident in Kamloops, B.C., heard barking coming from a van parked at a hotel on Tuesday night.
RCMP say officers found five full-grown Labrador retrievers and 14 puppies inside the vehicle and no safety measures were taken to protect them during transport.
A Saskatchewan woman was issued a ticket for Transporting Living Animals Without Protection, and Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says it’s likely the woman runs a puppy mill.
The dogs have been turned over to the SPCA and Shelkie says the agency will investigate whether charges are warranted under animal protection legislation.
