Last night it was so nice to scroll through the program grid on the TV without the Olympics taking up every sports channel. Actually, there was one channel showing the replay of women’s golf from 2 days before, but that was it.
One beef I did have about the Olympic coverage is that I never knew when our Canadian athletes were competing. When you checked the TV grid it only showed which sports would be covered during that span. You’d think Canadian sports channels would focus heavily on their own athletes. I understand that you have to cover everything, but how about a little heads up when some of our athletes were up for medals. I definitely caught the men’s 200m final because it was heavily promoted.
I didn’t watch much of the Olympic coverage, but I would have certainly watched more if I knew exactly when specific events would have aired!
Another thing that bothers me about the Olympics, both summer and winter, are some of the events. Beach volleyball? C’mon! These people aren’t athletes. When I worked on the cruise ship we used to play beach volleyball just about every week. We weren’t athletes and neither are any of the people I saw on TV! I’m not saying they’re not in great shape, they’re just not athletes.
Another event that really caught my attention my Race Walking. I never even knew this event existed until a Canadian was stripped of his bronze medal. Race Walking? Really? The only thing that I think about when I see a speed walker is that person looks like he or she is in dire need of finding the first available bathroom and they’re trying to get there as quickly as possible! Olympic athlete? I think not.
What’s next? Olympic fishing? Darts? Lawn mowing?
How about Olympic driving?
Count me in! I can drive. I must be an athlete!
