Is it too soon for Christmas Shopping! Some would suggest, “NEVER”! And for the 1st time in a long time, I’ve been just like a squirrel and salting things away!
Yes, there is a stash of Christmas gifts!
If I look around, there are things that I have from last year that remain un-gifted! (Do I have a problem or just a smart shopper – load up when there’s an opportunity.)
Anyway – the long and short of it is I found some cool things on my road trip to the Southwestern corner of the province.
Here’s a hint: MAPLE CREEK!
Thriving Saskatchewan communities have some of the neatest shopping stops to make and while we still have summer hours available – make sure you take advantage.
Maple Creek has a great Toy & Candy Shop, owner Bob moved from B.C. to open this huge store that is located just a block north of the post office.
The upstairs is filled with puzzles and toys that will make any boy or girl very happy as well as the collector. The main floor too, is an amazing mixture of teaching tools as well as pure fun; mini puzzles, chattering teeth to name a couple. PLUS there’s the candy! And just up the street is the books store with all kinds of children’s books and activities. Great if you and your family love to learn – who doesn’t. Bob and his wife give great advice on Maple Creek’s dining scene too!
Stay right on Jasper Avenue and you’ll find a very cool kitchen and gadget shop! Again, friendly, helpful staff that know how important visitors are to the area.
Maple Creek has definitely got that Western vibe going on and if you love the Western lifestyle, keep your eyes open and come in off the TransCanada highway to spend at least a couple hours checking out the shopping and cafes. The dining is experience is terrific – depending on what you are looking for – you’ll find it!
While you have made the effort to get to this part of the province, take a drive South of town to the beauty of our “prairie foothills” – The Cypress Hills await you!
P.S. The Commercial Hotel is a must see as well – book a room there and take a walk back in time.
