Hundreds of people rallied in front of Saskatoon City Hall on Friday, protesting against the provincial government’s social services cuts.
2,700 people receiving social assistance payments will see reduced payments on September 1st, as a result of provincial cuts.
Saskatchewan NDP interim leader Trent Wotherspoon is calling on the province to reverse the cuts.
“These are callous, they’re mean spirited, they leave people without the security and peace of mind that they deserve. So we need a firm and strong commitment from this premier, that he’s going to reverse these callous cuts and not make people pay for his mismanagement,” said Wotherspoon.
Wotherspoon says Saskatchewan’s Premier has spent money on “mismanaged” projects, while shortchanging the most vulnerable populations.
