For the last couple of days I’ve been scratching parts of my body I never even knew I had. Thank you Mr. Mosquito!
Saturday afternoon I was out in Craven helping out with Canadian TruckFest. Seeing as I’d never been to an event like that before, I was actually looking forward to being out there and finding out for myself what this thing was all about. I didn’t have to do much. Doug, the track announcer, would come over every now and then and have me comment on a couple of aspects of the various events. I had no idea what in the world I was talking about, but I had fun. As it turned out, I knew a lot of the racers so it was a chance to catch up on some old times as well.
The one thing that kept annoying me was the number of mosquitoes out there that day. My wife’s been complaining about them all year. We can’t sit on the deck for more than 15 minutes without her crying about getting eaten alive. What a wuss! Personally, I haven’t had any problem with them at all this year. Until Saturday.
Early on after I arrived at the TruckFest, I felt an itch on my leg, so I gave whatever was there a good swat. When I looked down I noticed there was a fair amount of blood. That darn thing must have been huge. I’m lucky that thing didn’t just pick me up by the shoulders and carry me out of there! At that point I knew I’d probably start sounding like my wife in no time at all. I was slapping, swatting, and swinging for the rest of the day, without much luck.
I started itching on Sunday, but yesterday was the day that everything seemed to start itching at the same time. I even had itchy spots between my toes for goodness sakes.
I always make fun of my wife when she comes out on the deck with a bottle of bug spray in one of her hands. Next time I’ll stop laughing and start spraying!
