Time flies! Its been 2 years I’ve been a member, in good standing, of the Downtowner’s Optimist Club of Regina.
The Optimist International mandate is to help our youth. I like that.
We promote healthy lifestyles by backing kids in their endeavors. In Regina this includes the Optimist Band Festival (held in March), Oratorical Competitions that run throughout schools in the spring. And in June the club holds a Family Fun Day at the Rick Hansen Park just off of McCarthy Boulevard.
A big date in January is the Regina Downtowner’s “Wild Game Dinner”.
The “hunters” in our club are excited to be going out to bag the spoils that will be served up at this annual event that raises a lot of cash for the charities we support leading into the year.
And we are always inviting in new members to help us stay connected in the community. If you have ever thought about joining a service club – think of the Optimist Club near you. And if you want to start one in your community, let us know!
In an effort to encourage a new generation of members we have struck a committee to start a new project with the focus on helping CAMP CIRCLE OF FRIENDS.
One of our former club members, Tyron Brackenridge, held back to back steak nights at Birmingham’s in Regina. A portion of the evening’s proceeds were given to Camp Circle of Friends. Tyron, sadly is living back in the U.S., however our club continues on a tradition of reaching out to help the kids that attend the camp, located just on Last Mountain Lake.
Approximately 125 kids attend the camp which is held just once a year. I hope you visit the link to the Camp web page.
Our club would love to see you at the Artesian – 2627 13th Avenue Regina.
The event: Wigs & Wine Night.
We want to thank our generous title sponsor Atlas-Apex Roofing and the other wonderful sponsors that are on board.
While the date of September 22 is coming very quick, we still have opportunities for sponsorship to this intimate event.
Only 125 tickets are available at $60 per person. Music by Ken Jefferson and a special appearance by 620 CKRM’s Proudly Saskatchewan Showcase finalist, Justin LaBrash.
The evening will be a business casual event that begins at 7 and wraps at 10 pm. Bring your favorite wig to style up the night, pop into the photo booth to have fun, enjoy tapas from FIX Catering. By the end of the night you could walk away a big winner of our major raffle prize – a Year of Wine!
