The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region will be handing out layoff notices after reviewing some units within the organization.
Keith Dewar, President and Executive Director for the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region said less than 20 people will lose their jobs as a part of the layoffs.
According to Dewar, the changes are being made to improve health care within the region.
If an employee is issued a layoff notice, there are collective agreements in place supporting unionized employees to find other positions within the health care region.
“This allows them to look at that a little quicker than they could if they were going through a different type of relocation process,” said Dewar.
Three full-time and two part-time administrative positions within the region will not be filled, as a way to save money and put it toward front-line care. Dewar says those positions were mainly senior staff who decided to retire early.
