A parliamentary committee will be conducting public hearings on Canada Post services, and Saskatchewan is expected to be one of the stops.
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates are holding the hearings as part of a Liberal government review of the Crown corporation.
Regina-Lewvan MP Erin Weir, one of the committee’s Vice Chairs, says he expects to hear on what services Canadians expect, how to improve door-to-door delivery, and ideas on how to improve Canada Post’s financial situation.
Weir says one option he is interested in is postal banking, which would deliver banking services at Canada Post locations, especially for locations that aren’t serviced by charter banks.
There are currently no Western Canadian dates set, but Weir says the dates haven’t been approved at this time.
He will be pushing for a hearing in Regina October 20th, saying Western Canadians need to have a voice in the discussions.
Once the hearings are complete, the committee will make a report to Parliament in December.
