Maidstone RCMP have warned the public of a paving scam in their region.
Police says scam artists are approaching people on their own properties advising them they are working in the nearby area, usually on the highway.
The scammers also trying the approach of offering left-over asphalt or paving supplies, for a “low” price.
Then, they offer to pave an area, sometimes doing more work then requested.
RCMP say after the initial payment and some work done, the sellers request a much higher price that was not agreed upon, often pressuring people into paying.
Other times, a small down-payment is put down, and the seller leaves never to return.
These individuals are very well organized, often looking professional with pamphlets or other hand outs, and construction type vehicles which match the work they allege to do.
A common theme with many of the complaints is that the men have an irish or foreign accent.
Please contact Police immediately if approached by these individuals.
