The season isn’t close to being finished, but after going 0-8 last year, the Regina Rams are sitting in first place in Canada West at 3-1 after beating the number 2 ranked Calgary Dinos 32-27 at Mosaic Stadium Friday night.
The game went right down to the end and likely would have been a Calgary victory, but Rams linebacker Joey Dwyer crushed Calgary quarterback Jimmy Underdahl with a ferocious hit at the one yard line causing a fumble in the dying seconds that the Rams recovered to get their 3rd straight win after losing their season opener.
Noah Picton had another fantastic night in the air as the Regina quarterback threw for 452 yards and four touchdowns. His cousin, Mitch, was the big beneficiary hauling in 13 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Dwyer had 14 tackles while rookie Nick Dheilly, making his first CIS start, had three sacks.
The Rams, who went into the game as the number 9 ranked team in Canada, will now prepare for the historic first-ever event at the new Mosaic Stadium when they play the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on October 1.
