A Saskatoon man who was struck several times by a pool cue in a small Manitoba city over the weekend, has died.
25 year old Zachary Straughan succumbed to his injuries in a Winnipeg hospital late Monday afternoon. His family consented to donate Straughan’s organs in hopes that they may save someone else’s life.
Just before midnight on Saturday, police in Winkler, Manitoba were called to a bowling alley after an argument between two men over an unpaid debt turned violent.
Police say the first officer arriving at the bowling alley found the victim unconscious.
Minutes after the alleged incident, 29 year old Justin Bird was taken into custody.
Bird, who was also from Saskatoon, was in court on Monday, facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance. He will next appear in court October 11th. Investigators are considering upgrading the charges after Straughan’s death.
