The organization says they started up the initiative to increase voter turnout after only 33 per cent of eligible voters showed up at the city’s last election.
Vicki Nelson with the Queen Voters Hub initiative says she wants people to learn more about the election through their campaign.
“People don’t see it as important, which is what we’re trying to cast some light on,” explained Nelson. “Our day to day lives are governed more by the decisions made at city council than other levels of government.”
Nelson says getting involved is easy; all the group asks is that people post selfies or group pictures on social media, captioning them with issues they care about and tagging #MyYQR and #ReginaVotes.
In this, they hope Reginans can follow the hashtags, connect with others and learn more about the election.
Regina’s municipal election is set for Oct. 26.
