Caleb Jones was the hero for the Portland Winterhawks as his overtime goal with 56 seconds to go gave his team a 5-4 win over the Regina Pats in what was a back-and-forth contest.
The two teams went into the third tied at one, but the final 20 minutes was a wild one as each team scored three times setting the stage for Jones’ heroics.
Adam Brooks led the Regina attack with a pair of goals with singles going to Sam Steel and Filip Ahl.
Regina goalie Tyler Brown and his Portland counterpart Michael Bullion each faced 51 shots as both teams played a wide-open offensive style of hockey.
The Pats now hit the road for a pair of games with their next contest Friday in Cranbrook, BC against the Kootenay Ice.
