Crop insurance in Saskatchewan is forecasting a payout of 500 million dollars this year.
CEO Shawn Jacques says 21 hundred crop insurance claims have already been filed and more are likely coming because of the late harvest.
He estimates 7 million acres of crop remain to be combined.
He says crop insurance premiums were 600 million dollars so the agency is not expected to lose money.
He says the agency has built up a surplus and will be there to pay the claims.
Claims this year are forecast to be above normal.
Jacques reminds farmers the deadline to extend coverage or file production reports is November 15th.
Last year, Crop insurance claims reached 270 million dollars.
