The Canadian Finals Rodeo is not coming to Saskatoon after all.
In July, the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association signed a Memorandum-of-Understanding to hold the event in Saskatoon in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
However, Tourism Saskatoon President and CEO Todd Brandt says they found out in September the C-P-R-A went back to the bargaining table with Edmonton, and signed an agreement to continue hosting the event in Edmonton.
Brandt says he is under the impression a Memorandum-of-Understanding is the equivalent of a formal handshake with the community.
Brandt says they had looked at a major agriculture-related trade event to coincide with the CFR, and expected thousands of Albertans to cross the border for the event.
In April, Tourism Saskatoon estimated the event would have made 73-million dollars in economic impact.
According to reports from the City of Edmonton, it wasn’t part of the negotiations to keep the Canadian Finals Rodeo in their community.
