More coroners are going to be working in our province.
The decision comes to increase the amount after a promised review into the workings of the office after the death of 29 year old Nadine Machiskinic. She died in January 2015 after falling 10 stories down a laundry chute at a downtown Regina hotel.
The review, which was done by the office of the Chief Coroner and the ministry of Justice, has led to the hiring of two additional coroners with another one to come.
An inquest into Machiskinic’s death will also be held, but a date for that inquest has not been set.
The review was called for after the family of Machiskinic had questions about how the investigation was handled with Justice minister Gord Wyant saying the confidence of both the ministry and the coroners office had been put into question.
