While the numbers are still coming in, Doherty says Saskatchewan is facing fiscal pressures on the expenditures side.
“What I’m seeing from my finance officials as these reports roll in is that the $434 million deficit will be higher this year if the fiscal year ended today. It doesn’t end today, it ends March 31, 2017, so we have some work to do this year,” said Doherty.
Doherty wouldn’t say how much more than deficit could be.
The NDP’s finance critic Cathy Sproule calls the announcement concerning.
“The deficit is at record levels right now, as is our debt, so there’s a lot of problems with this government’s management of our finances,” said Sproule.
The government plans to release a financial update before the end of November.
