It started with Christina Chernesky a couple of weeks ago. Then it was Brandon Basler. Then it was Gloria Evans. Now, it’s Jamie Lewis. What do we have in common? We’ve all been bitten by the bug. The cold bug, that is.
A few days ago I had a little scratch in my throat and a bit of a burning sensation in my sinuses. Usually, a good nights sleep puts those little annoyances to bed. Not this time. They stuck around and they got worse.
I don’t get sick very often. I never have. If I get hit by a cold once a year, that’s about the end of it. If the law of averages stays true, after this, I should be good through the winter!
With all that science has done in the area of health, I’m still surprised that scientists still haven’t come up with anything that cures the common cold. I guess there’s really no need, seeing as a cold usually runs it’s course in a week. If you take medicine the cold will be gone in seven days. If you don’t, it’ll be gone in a week! Makes sense to me.
I remember my mom saying, “Don’t go outside with wet hair. You’ll catch a cold.” The truth is, you could run around outside, stark naked, with dripping wet hair and you wouldn’t catch a cold. There is only one way to catch a cold. It’s called a virus.
In our business we say it’s better to break a leg than to get a cold, although I’m sure Colin Lovequist wouldn’t look at it that way!
So, I will sniffle and snort my way through the next week or so, whining and complaining to anyone who’ll listen.
