I hope you are one of the lucky ones who’ve avoided the cold bug that is currently running amok. It seems to be hitting everywhere.
Although I feel a little better everyday, my voice isn’t progressing as quickly as I’d like. Last week was the toughest. Thanks to Agribition, I had 5 eleven hour days, which would have been a breeze if I had been feeling 100%. Everyday I found myself thinking “If my voice can hold out until Saturday, I’ll be fine.” By Friday afternoon, it was shot. Brandon Basler told me I sounded terrible on my remote broadcast on Saturday at Young’s Equipment, and he wasn’t wrong. I felt just like I sounded.
This week has been a bit better. My voice sucks when I first get up in the morning, but by the time I get down to the station and have a coffee or two, it settles down and will generally last me until 10. Barely.
I rarely get sick enough to knock me out of work. In over 21 years here at the station, I’ve missed only 8 days. If you don’t hear me on the radio when I’m supposed to be here, I’m either really sick or really dead, although I certainly prefer the former.
Oh well, there’s not a lot to do about this. Like everyone else, I’ll have a couple of boxes of Kleenex at the ready and just ride this darn thing out, coughing and hacking along the way. I’m sure it’s a joy for Gloria to listen to that every morning from 5:30-10. I consider it payback. She had this darn cold before I did.
Stay healthy friends!
