Calling out Mother Nature or the people that own the building I live in. STOP with the WIND CHILL because there is NO HEAT in my building.
How does one get excited about going home to prepare for Christmas or any other event when the temperatures are freezing in your home.
There is enough heat to NOT freeze pipes however, the windows are frosted over and it is not comfortable.
Our mom is 97, lives on her own and when I stop to check on her she’s wearing a few layers and has a space heater going.
Heat rises so the floor I’m on is a bit warmer, I am also on the opposite side of the building and have avoided most of this frigid NorthWest wind. My mom’s apartment not so much. I guess its good that she bakes, because the oven is generating that much needed heat.
Now, as a renter you hope that your landlord will be quick to have things fixed. The building was inspected through the summer for alarms as well as the heating.
I fondly remember the day the guys came in and checked it because they didn’t but the rad protectors back on!
The issue is that one of the boilers in the old building isn’t working – thank God we have hot water!! And electricity.
Our rent isn’t cheap, someone is not taking this seriously enough as no notices have been issued to let us know when this will be sorted.
OH I might add, that fire alarms keep going off. And after the 1st one, the walking down 12 flights of stairs for no reason gets pretty old. No one really knows what is happening there either. Is it connected with the boiler not working. The last time this happened the top door to the roof was open and water gushed down the emergency stair well.
Our maintenance guy, Don is great; constantly working around the building helping everyone, but this issue requires some major assistance.
I think more than anything its the lack of communication from our building owner. Nicor – how about a correction on the rent or something in January – this is ridiculous.
