When they arrived they found flames on three levels of the building that was built in 1925.
Fire Chief Mitch Lorrain, says they were able to save some important areas of the building.
“There is a lot of damage, but every-thing is still there. All the pews are there, but the ceiling is pulled down which we did ourselves in order to gain access to fire in the attic. We were also able to save a lot of paperwork and records as well.”
Lorraine says the building is still intact other than the roof being caved in at the top.
The investigation is on-going but earlier speculations are that the fire began in a basement bulk-head where some pot-lights are located.
Gravelbourg is located 186 kilometers southwest of Regina.
