Calgary police have charged a pilot with being impaired after he allegedly passed out in the cockpit of a Sunwing plane prior to departure.
Police just before 7 AM Saturday morning, the male boarded the Sunwing 737 aircraft with 99 passengers that was scheduled to make stops in Regina and Winnipeg before heading to Cancun, Mexico.
In a release from Calgary police, they say gate crew and crew aboard the flight noticed the pilot was behaving oddly prior to departure before he became unconscious in the cockpit.
The pilot, 37 year-old Miroslav Gronych a Slovakian in Canada on a work visa, was taken off the plane and placed into custody by Calgary police.
He has been charged with having care and control of an aircraft while being impaired, and having care and control of an aircraft while over the legal blood alcohol limit of point zero eight
