Starting January 1st, adult adoptees and birth parents will have easier access to an adoptees’ birth registrations in Saskatchewan.
Birth registrations include the name of listed birth parents, the name of the child at birth and location of birth, along with the name of the hospital.
At the beginning of 2017, an adoptee or birth parent can go online to request that information be released without consent.
Minister of Social Services Tina Beaudry-Mellor says a number of people seeking adoption records had taken issue with the length of time to get the information.
Adult adoptees and birth parents who do not want either their name and identifying information on the birth registration, or who want to limit the types of contact information available from the registration, must issue a veto to the Post-Adoption Registry.
