Conservative leadership hopeful Andrew Scheer has a message for possible candidate Kevin O’Leary.
The Regina MP is releasing a statement urging the businessman to make his candidacy official and participate in a French language debate in Quebec City January 17 and feels O’Leary is trying avoid taking part in the all-French event.
Scheer says it’s obvious O’Leary wants to get into the race and that he has an obligation to all French-speaking Conservatives to take part in the debate.
Some Conservatives believe it is essential that Stephen Harper’s replacement has the ability to speak French.
O’Leary doesn’t speak the language and has stated he doesn’t need to in order to communicate with Quebecers.
The deadline to register for the leadership race is February 24 with the winner chosen in May.
There are currently 13 people in the running to replace Stephen Harper who stepped down after the party’s defeat in the last federal election
