This morning as I crossed Lewvan at 4th Ave. there was a cop car that turned off Lewvan and ended up right behind me as I made my way east to Albert St. No big deal. I don’t see many coppers on my way to work, but one on my tail is even more rare. It’s not like I had been drinking all night or just robbed a bank.
I don’t care who you are, I’m sure everyone tightens up just a little bit when there’s a cop riding on your tail. Your mind starts calculating everything that could be wrong with your vehicle that could get you pulled over and ticketed.
I know I had a burned out tail light in the summer, but I got that fixed, so there’s no reason to pull me over for that. I was driving a little faster than the speed limit, which I always consider a good thing. If I was a cop, I’d be more suspicious about a vehicle driving 10 clicks below the speed limit at 3 o’clock in the morning than I would be about a vehicle driving a few clicks above it. I know I wasn’t swerving in my lane at all. Hey, all’s well! He’s not looking to pull me over, he just happened to pull up behind me.
The cop was behind me from Lewvan to Albert St. and apparently was satisfied enough with my driving to leave me alone. At Albert St. he went one direction while I went the other.
Where was this guy all the times I drove behind someone swerving all over the road with one tail light burned out?
You know what they say, there’s never a cop around when you need one!
