The Regina Pats will be collecting gently-used sports equipment Friday evening with donations going to the Ehrlo Sports Venture Library.
The library lends out equipment on an individual and group basis, free-of-charge.
Bennett Dunlop Ford and the Regina Pats are working together on this equipment drive prior to the Blue Jay’s Night Pats game on Friday, January 6th. Regina is hosting the Calgary Hitmen.
In fact, the first 500 people who drop off sports gear will receive a coupon to have their car professionally cleaned at Bennett Dunlop Ford.
Amanda McConnell is the Ehrlo Sport Venture manager. She says the equipment will go to inner-city youth and families who rely on Sport Venture for recreational opportunities.
Donations must be clean and useable. They can be:
- and other sporting equipment.
McConnell says the timing of the drive also coincides with the start the Ehrlo Outdoor Hockey League. Last year, 300 youth were able to participate in hockey who might not have been able to afford it otherwise.
“It’s amazing to give these families opportunities which might be a little out of reach for some of them,” says McConnell, “High costs for league fees and even transportation, along with equipment costs are daunting for many and we try to break down that barrier.”
Collections will take place near the box office at the Brandt Centre between 6 and 7 p.m. Friday evening.
Bennett Dunlop, Pats, Kidsport and Sport Venture staff and volunteers will be on hand to collect and sort the equipment that is provided.
Bennett Dunlop will provide trucks to transport the collected equipment to Sport Venture.
