Health Minister Jim Reiter says work is underway to consolidate Saskatchewan’s 12 existing Regional Health Authorities to a single Provincial Health Authority.
In a news conference in Saskatoon Tuesday morning, the minister says the transition is expected by the fall of 2017.
Reiter admits it is a significant change saying the government is taking a thoughtful and planned approach to ensure things are done right.
He says a transition team is being assembled that will include Ministry of Health, clinical and health system leaders.
The Saskatchewan government has said potential savings associated with consolidation are currently estimated in the range of 10-to-20-million dollars by 2018-19.
