Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers is reporting some pretty impressive numbers for 2016.
According to RCMP Sergeant Rob Cozine, nearly 7000 calls and emails came in last year, which is 1300 more tips from 2015.
In 2016, approximately $583,000 worth of property was recovered, along with around $90,690 in drugs.
Twenty-four arrests were also made last year, bringing the total of arrests since Crime Stopper’s 1987 inception to 3237.
Sergeant Cozine says seeing such an increase in tipsters goes to show residents in the province really want to try and make a difference.
While stopping crime is a reward in itself, the money awarded to those with tips is an added incentive.
Last year, the Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers Board approved more than $16,000 in rewards.
Since 1987, Crime Stoppers has paid out more than $350,000 in rewards, located almost $9.5 million in property, and seized just more than $8 million in drugs.
