Saskatchewan’s ombudsman has recommended the RM of Sherwood vote to dismiss a councillor over a conflict of interest issue.
The RM surrounds the city of Regina.
Ombudsman Mary McFadyen says councillor Tim Probe failed to declare a conflict of interest during a meeting last January.
She says the meeting discussed court cases involving a major development south of Regina in the RM of Sherwood.
“We made a recommendation to council that it should vote on whether or not it should apply to the Court of Queens Bench, for an order declaring this council member to be disqualified, because it is the court that ultimately has to order that somebody is disqualified from council,” said McFadyen.
McFadyen is advising all municipal council members across the province to know and follow the conflict of interest rules.
She says an information package is being developed for councils across Saskatchewan on conflict of interest regulations.
