A community whose rink’s future hung on the threads of a signed Gordie Howe jersey that was stolen on the weekend, has been shown a ray of hope as other sports stores offer up donations for their fundraising lottery.
The jersey was to be the grand prize in the lottery and preserve the rink’s future as a result of the ticket sales in the lottery.
Asquith Mayor Gail Erhart is encouraging whomever stole the jersey to bring it back because of the kids it was meant to help.
She notes there isn’t much to do in the town, but when winter rolls around the rink is the place to be.
In the meantime, others have stepped up to offer donations to make up the loss.
Items include a Saskatchewan Rush jersey signed by the whole team and more Gordie Howe memorabilia.
Warman RCMP officers are investigating the theft, which occurred sometime late Saturday or early Sunday.
Anyone with information should contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
