The number of people flying out of the Regina International Airport has reached an all-time high.
Last year, YQR had a passenger count of 1,262,899, which is 7,000 more than in 2015.
According to Richmond Graham, president and CEO of the Regina Airport Authority, it just goes to show that people continue to seek out and value travel.
“It’s a real testiment in an economy with its challenges,” said Graham. “We are still seeing people moving forward, travelling where they want to go.”
Graham said there’s a strong desire out there for solid direct flights, and that’s something YQR is able to offer.
He said having three non-stop flights from Las Vegas, Phoenix and Orlando has helped boost numbers, along with YQR being the only airport in the province to fly direct to Florida.
In addition to international travel, Graham adds that — in the last year — domestic travel has increased 4.3 per cent.
