The Regina Police Service is asking motorists to remember to slow down to 60km/hr when passing emergency vehicles and tow trucks with emergency lights in operation on the Ring Road and on other highways.
With the extreme cold, plenty of new snow, and anticipated warmer weather this weekend (which will cause some melting, then freezing), motorists are advised adjust their speed for the conditions.
Keep in mind the officers, EMTs, firefighters, and tow truck operators who are out in the cold weather for extended periods, helping victims of breakdowns and collisions.
The fines for passing emergency workers and roadside assistance/tow truck drivers climb up a category in fines.
These are examples for “Exceed 60 km/hr when passing stopped emergency vehicle or tow truck that has its emergency lights in operation” [Sec 204(1) & 205(1), TSA]:
- Speed over by 15km/hr, fine is $220 (Regular speeding ticket would be $125)
- Speed over by 30km/hr, fine is $250 (Regular speeding ticket would be $150)
- Speed over by 40km/hr, fine is $360 (Regular speeding ticket would be $200)
