Last Thursday night, after enjoying my first barbequed steak supper in a couple of weeks, I noticed that one of the crowns in my mouth appeared to be very loose. I must have chomped down on something that cracked the cement holding it in place. I stuck a couple of fingers in my mouth to have a feel and noticed I could actually pull my crown up and down.
Great. The last trip I wanted to make was a trip out east to see my dentist.
Friday morning I got on the phone my dentist’s office to see if I could get in and get this thing taken care of. Unfortunately, Friday is the day my dentist does his hospital day. He actually has patients that he has to put under to do the work they need, and Friday is the day he does that. His partner was unavailable as well. Now what?
I knew the crown was loose, but I didn’t know whether or not it would last until I could get in to see my dentist Monday morning. I was more worried about the darn thing coming off while I slept and swallowing it. I’ll tell you one thing. If that happened, there was no way I was going to retrieve it and put it back in my mouth!
Seeing as Friday was out of the question, I made an appointment for yesterday morning after work.
It took my dentist a good five minutes to pry the crown off of it’s base. As it turned out, I certainly didn’t have to worry about it coming off on it’s own.
After the crown came off, my dentist cleaned out the inside of my crown and did some prep work on the spot it was going to be reattached to, and that was it. More cement and a clean bill of health.
I was relieved. The last thing I wanted to do was perch over a toilet in search of a missing tooth!
