A northwest Regina elementary school has been hit hard by illness this week. but the situation appears to be improving.
Regina Public Schools spokesperson Terry Lazarou says one-sixth of students and staff at Henry Janzen School were absent on Monday, but the number of absenteeism at the school on Wednesday has dropped to 52. The school has 460 students
Letters have been sent home indicating the problem and that a thorough cleaning of the school is happening with kids being encouraged to wash their hands at all times and teachers having sanitary wipes on their desk.
That letter also indicates if a child is showing symptoms of illness that they should stay home for 48 hours.
Lazarou can’t say what problem is affecting the school, but he adds the influenza hits schools every year and that this year, it may be Henry Janzen taking the hit.
