Next Wednesday is Red Cross Pink Day to support anti-bullying. Last year the ‘RM morning crew was all decked out in pink, and I imagine next Wednesday will be no different.
Although bullying seems to predominant nowadays, I just can’t remember hearing much about it when I was in school. I’m sure it was going on, but I never picked on anyone and I wasn’t picked on, so it was something that you didn’t pay much attention to unless you were the recipient of the bullying.
Kids can get bullied for a multitude of reasons, from the way they look to the clothes they wear. I can’t imagine being afraid to go to school because other kids are picking on you. It’s heartbreaking. Kids probably don’t have any idea how cruel they are being until they get older and look back on things. By then, obviously, it’s a little too late.
What’s going on now is the best solution ever for anti-bullying or any other social problem…education. People are talking about it and taking action. Too many times people want to sweep an issue under the carpet and ignore it until it blows up and there is no other alternative but to face it.
Most people want to run from a problem, but not this cowboy. I’ll dive in head first and take care of it before it becomes unmanageable.
So, next Wednesday, if you want to help tackle the problem of bullying, all you have to do is wear something pink. It’ll tell everyone around you that you are aware of the problem.
