Regina Police say a service member discharged a CEW, or a Taser, in a recent arrest.
It happened early Friday morning – approximately 2:38 a.m. – when police were dispatched to a residence on the 7000 block of Dagliesh Drive for the report of someone causing a disturbance.
When police arrived, a 34-year-old woman was under the backyard deck and refusing to come out.
In spite of several minutes of attempted negotiation by police, she had positioned a bladed weapon to her neck, prompting police to deploy the CEW.
Police were then able to remove her from underneath the deck, where she was safely taken into custody and transported to hospital.
The use of the CEW has been documented as per policy and will be reviewed by a Use of Force Committee – a committee within the Service.
All uses of force are also reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission – an oversight body independent of the Regina Police Service.
