Moose Jaw’s Penny Barker says it has been a whirlwind of activity since her rink won the Viterra Scotties in Melville last month, but they are now ready to see what they can do on the national stage.
Barker, and her team consisting of Deanna Doig, Lorraine Schneider and Danielle Sicinski, are representing Saskatchewan for the first time at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in St. Catherines, Ontario.
The field is a tough one with defending champ Chelsea Carey and Ontario’s Rachel Homan leading the way, but that isn’t stopping Barker from being excited at the prospects of what lays ahead.
“We are a confident group going in,” Barker said. ” We wish we could have gone right to St. Catherines from Melville because we played so well, but all rinks are deserving to be there and we are looking forward at competing, throwing our eight rocks each end and competing the way we know we can.”
Barker has the first draw off on Saturday afternoon with her first game Saturday night against the Newfoundland rink skipped by Stacey Curtis.
