The first day of a trial has concluded in Yorkton for a Cote First Nation man, charged with Second Degree Murder.
34-year-old Chester Whitehawk has pleaded not guilty yesterday to the February, 2016 death of 20-year-old Chad Cote.
Court heard that Cote’s cause of death was from blunt force trauma.
He had been hit on the head with a metal rotor, and then was stabbed 16 times.
Whitehawk has admitted to killing Cote, but claims the victim had threatened to beat and sexually assault him if he didn’t join a gang.
His trial resumes Wednesday.
