Friday after work I finally gave in. I crumbled. I fold like a deck of cards. I finally joined the 21st century. I went over to Wireless Age and got myself a cellphone. Thank you to Amie for getting me all set up. I can’t imagine her ever having a customer who knew less about cellphones than yours truly.
I know what you’re thinking. Lewis sold out. He’s now working for “the man.”
The truth is, my wife, and just about everyone I know, have been urging me to get a cellphone for years. People were in disbelief when they realized I didn’t have one. They would say things like, “How can you live without one?” Or, “How can you make it through the day without a cellphone?”
My mind was kind of made up when our engineer took back the flip phone I was using that belonged to the station. I would use that only if I was broadcasting on location somewhere. The phone became obsolete. I tried to use it one day and it just wouldn’t work. So, I gave in.
After my wife got home from work on Friday, she got everything set up for me. Before I knew it I was sending out text messages left and right. My boss replied, “Welcome to 2005!” Thanks, I think. Then I fired off a quick text to Gloria and even to mom and dad in Lethbridge. My dad is 87 and has been texting for years! I felt a little left behind when it came to that.
So, here I am, all set for life with a cell phone.
Wish me luck!
