The blizzard in Saskatchewan Wednesday made highway travel extremely chaotic after major warnings were issued for the area, along with a large chunk of southeast Saskatchewan.
According to White Butte RCMP, a woman died in a multi-vehicle collision near Pense.
In a release, RCMP say six other people were transported to hospital as a result of the accident which happened at the heighth of the blizzard.
The vehicles involved included a car, two SUV’s and a charter bus which was empty.
Reports say visibility was near zero and over 10 vehicles were involved in the crash.
Highway 1 near Fort Qu’Appelle was closed for several hours and Moose Jaw EMS implored motorists to stay off the highway.
In one social media post, images showed three lanes of traffic backed up, with some vehicles attempting to drive around through the ditch.
White Butte RCMP also urged motorists to avoid Highway 1, saying drivers who must be on the road should expect delays.
In the meantime, motorists travelling Wednesday are urged to check with Highway Hotline first.
