This morning I woke up 10 minutes before my alarm was due to go off, which isn’t unusual. I’d rather have it that way than be bolted out of bed by a blaring radio.
Even before I made it to the foot of the bed my wife asked “did you hear the sump pump going last night?” Huh? Then she said, “the toilet seems to be flushing funny.” I’ve been awake a grand total of less than half a minute at this point. I answered no to the first question and kind of grunted at her second comment. Then I asked, “what in the world are you doing up at this hour?” “I couldn’t sleep” she said.
That’s not unusual either. We had our granddaughters for a sleepover last night. Whenever that happens my wife suddenly becomes a very light sleeper. That I got. What I still didn’t get was the question about the sump pump.
When we get a quick melt like we did yesterday, the sump pump usually kicks in a few times. If it doesn’t kick in, obviously, it doesn’t need to. I don’t give it a second thought.
In regards to the toilet, it was flushing fine when I used it before I went to bed last night.
At 3 o’clock in the morning it takes all of my concentration just to remember to put on deodorant, let alone worry about a toilet and a sump pump.
Before I left for work I gave my wife a kiss and told her to get some sleep. Her mind was working a little overtime last night!
