Legislation is now in place for Saskatchewan to make the move from 12 to one single health authority .
Jim Reiter Minister of Health says announcements regarding a CEO and Board can be expected in the next couple months.
“We’ve got some significant announcement which will be coming forward in the next month or two probably,” says Reiter. “We’re going to have to look at appointing a board, a CEO. Those sorts of announcements.”
Reiter also says they are aiming for a salary cap for high ranking officials.
However, Danielle Chartier, the NDP Health Critic, says this is nothing more than more government rollbacks.
“Well, we have a Bill and a decision by the government whose says we’re doing something about our abysmal record in health care,” says Chariter. “Really, what they’re doing is cutting and cutting more. They’re cutting local voices. They’re cutting services. They’re cutting funding.”
The province is still aiming to have the new single health authority functioning by this fall.
