A week after the provincial government budget slashed funding to school boards across Saskatchewan, the Regina Catholic School Division continues to determine how they will account for lost money.
A total shortfall of $1.5 million, which leads to about $471 less per student than in the 2016-2017 budget year, needs to be filled to maintain current student-teacher ratios.
Board Chair Donna Ziegler tells 620 CKRM News, she, and her fellow board members will continue to work with the public to try and come up with a solution.
“We’ve tried to engage our stakeholders, we’ve tried to keep them abreast as to what’s happening,” she said.
“We continue to look for efficiencies and look at ways to maybe using money differently to continue to support what’s going on in the classroom,” she added.
The RCSD is opening three new schools and expects upwards of 370 students in the next school year.
