A 32 year old Regina man has been handed a 1000 dollar sentence for a hit and run incident in October 2014 that just about killed an RCMP officer.
On the night in question, RCMP were dealing with an incident north of the city near the Sherwood Forest golf course. The officer had just arrested someone when an SUV driven by Blake Wahl went roaring through striking the officer who pushed the arrested man out of the way.
The force of the collision sent Constable Keith Bennett flying through the air leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
Wahl had been facing more serious charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and leaving the scene of an accident where bodily harm had occurred, but a preliminary hearing last year resulted in the judge saying the Crown could not prove either charge.
As a result, Wahl faced a lesser charge of leaving the scene of an accident to which he pleaded guilty.
Bennett continues to suffer from his injuries and is on desk duty. He feels he will never be 100 percent again after what happened.
