Friday after work I headed home knowing full well what was in store for me. Our dog was at the vet getting his operation I blogged about Friday and my wife was off work. Max wouldn’t coming home until later in the afternoon and my wife didn’t feel like sitting around all day watching the clock. She didn’t even want to shop! I knew I was coming home to some yard work.
We put off raking last fall until it was too wet to do anything with the leaves. However, with the beautiful dry weather we’ve had lately, the time was ripe to finally get out and get that raking taken care of, at least that’s what my wife was thinking. Our minds were miles apart on that thought, but I eventually came around to my wife’s way of thinking. I wasn’t surprised. I knew that darn raking would have to get done sooner or later.
So, to the back yard we went, with rake and garbage bags in hand. I made one last feeble attempt to get out of raking. “Why don’t I just fire up the lawn mower and mulch everything up?” It seemed like a great idea to me, but my wife was less impressed. “You can do that if you want, but the leaves are coming off first” was her reply, which I fully expected. Oh well, you can’t blame a guy for trying.
As it turned out, my job was easy. I just cleaned up some stuff from in and around the shed and then when my wife had a few piles of leaves to put in the garbage bag, I’d head over and stuff them in while she held the bag open. It went quickly and before you know it we were all done. I must admit the yard looks a heck of a lot better than it would have if I was home alone that day!
At the end of the day Max was home after a successful operation and we had a clean “leafless” yard that that he would be able to run around in.
